Always Have, Always Will

McLeavey Gallery is delighted to bring you, Always Have, Always Will, an exhibition of new works from Veronika Djoulai, Milli Jannides & Christina Pataialii.

Veronika, a visual artist working with sculpture, painting and found photography, is based in Tāmaki Makaurau. Veronika returns, following a short sabbatical, for her first exhibition at McLeavey since 2020. She describes her new body of abstract paintings as ‘‘Nice sets of problems’ that I am able to fathom.’

Milli, a painter born in Tāmaki Makaurau, has lived in various countries over the past decade and is currently based in Stockholm, Sweden. Milli works in an abstract way working across several canvases all at once. Her works are an amalgamation of her inspirations and experimentations. Recently, Milli has been concerned with the plot of life, the journey, the formation of identity and the dissolution that can accompany that. 

Christina, is a painter based in Pōneke. Her works are recognisable by her deft eye for colour. Her energetic, open, gestural brushwork; her rendering of familiar motifs in a fresh and energising way and her unique perspective on the landscape of Aotearoa.

Always Have, Always Will, brings together these three artists, each from their own corner of the world, each with their own distinctive style and experiences, united in their concern for composition, motion, colour, materiality and contemporary painting.
