Flayed Buttercream

“Portraiture is central to my practice” explains artist Yvonne Todd. “As an artist I’m fascinated by the seemingly endless iterations of portraiture and its elements of the psychological, the scope for adornment, costume, styling, and the connection between the subject and camera and, subsequently, the viewer. I’m deeply interested in people.

Yet, the world can be a bewildering place. I look to make sense of it by creating characters, essentially actors in costume, to amuse, perform, and be ‘present’.”

In Flayed Buttercream, an exhibition of new work by Yvonne, we are introduced to four new characters: Cloudie, Emerald, Infra-Haze and Ice Blue... and a strangely pleasing found-object.
