In 2021 Yvonne Todd delivered the Peter Turner Memorial Lecture to a live audience at Te Papa Tongarewa.
Titled Rogue Wave, Yvonne discussed the role her insistent imagination plays in creating photographs, along with other insights into her distinctive practice – including her fascination with portraiture and the sometimes-uncomfortable elements of the psychological in her work. She also discussed the rigours, both conceptual and practical, of producing and exhibiting photographs.
The lecture has been established in the memory of the late Peter Turner—photographic historian, curator, author, editor, publisher and teacher. Each year the College of Creative Arts brings an internationally significant photographic historian, theorist or artist to Wellington to deliver the annual lecture.
