Richard Killeen has exhibited with Peter McLeavey and McLeavey Gallery since 1975 and in that time has had in excess of 40 solo exhibitions at the gallery. It is our pleasure to be able to continue to share Richard’s work with you and we are delighted to present his latest body of work in his solo exhibition, Banners.

In 2022 Michael Moore-Jones wrote ‘Killeen is a cataloguer, the manager of an immense database of shapes and forms - the curator, perhaps, of an imaginary library. His works themselves are not just parts of that database, but dispersed remnants of Killeen’s own history.’

If Richard’s database is a library then the works in Banners are a selection of some of the stories he has to tell. Each banner is a collage of those familiar and iconic motifs, all of which have recurred throughout Richard’s practice, which spans over 50 years and many different media - the comb, the jar, the dragonfly (to name just a few). On the grouping of images in each work Richard says they are together ‘not because they relate to each other but because they are together, it’s like an essay in the right wrong thing’
