Reflecting the way that artificial intelligence is already altering the DNA of reality, Yvonne Todd’s largest work to date, Personators (2026), will populate the walls of NGV International with close to 1000 images. Running amok in the gallery, these AI-generated portraits depict deteriorating fabrications of once-dominant cultural staples, including brides, sullen Victorian women, New Age practitioners, and 1980s legal teams. Viewed as a collective, the images will be overwhelming, exposing a shifting understanding of photographic fidelity and image consumption.
