Congratulations to Areez Katki whose series of work The Rhapsode’s Tools Will Build the Rhapsode’s House is being exhibited in Venice as part of Beyond Boundaries, the 2024 Personal Structures exhibition organised by the European Cultural Centre (ECC).
Personal Structures is a biennial contemporary art exhibition that takes place alongside the Venice Biennale. Beyond Boundaries journeys across geographic, political, religious, cultural and artistic boundaries. Areez is presenting a series of textile and earth-based works that reframe the practices and lineages of language and learning as rooted in care, play, and communion with one’s ancestors.
Areez's installation includes nine tiles made with kaolinite clay found in the his family’s backyard in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland to create a portrait of his late grandmother, together with 17 embroidered handkerchiefs that respond to the 17 Ha’s of the prophet Zarathushtra’s Gathas, the foundational hymns of Zoroastrianism.
Beyond Boundaries runs 20 April - 24 November 2024. Areez's works are on view at the Palazzo Mora venue.
