Zahra Killeen-Chance and Solomon Mortimer are awarded the top prize in the Aotearoa Photobook Award 2022 for A Room in Whanganui.
The book was developed and printed while Solomon and Zahra were at the Tylee Cottage residency in Whanganui, thanks to the Sarjeant Gallery, 2021. The images in this book are all produced in the studio room of the cottage, where they explored the compositional possibilities of the space, subtracting and adding light and opportunities for physical intervention. The book has been designed in the Tylee Cottage colour scheme (green and cream) to reflect the influence of the space on the work. It is a book in duplicate, printed on 40gsm NCR stock and manually pin-perforated for easy image removal.
